As a bartender, what are spirits and Liqueurs is a must know thing to you, because that is the thing you play with and are trying to sell. No matter what a great bartender you are without that magic water, you are nothing. Its like you can’t ask a master chief to cook without giving him any ingredients.
So knowing about Spirits and liqueurs are also most basic thing you are gonna learn from being a bartender.
The definition of spirits and liqueurs could be easily on wikipedia as below:
A liqueur is an alcoholic beverage made from a distilled spirit that has been flavored with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers or nuts and bottled with added sugar or other sweetener (such as high-fructose corn syrup). Liqueurs are typically quite sweet. In parts of the United States, liqueurs may also be called cordials or schnapps.
spirit is an alcoholic beverage produced by distillation of a mixture produced from alcoholic fermentation. This process purifies it and removes diluting components like water, for the purpose of increasing its proportion of alcohol content .As examples, this does not include beverages such as beer, wine, and cider, as they are fermented but not distilled.
Here are the most common spirits and liqueurs you can find in any bar of NYC, and most cocktails are made of them. If you get familiar with all of them, you are half way of being a bartender.
